# Indian languages & festival calendar

Indian-language writing (11 languages) is in beta and off by default; the festival calendar works today.

## Switching it on

Indian-language writing is in beta and off by default. Set `FEATURE_INDIAN_LANGUAGES=true` on the server to show the language picker, translation and multi-language month plans. The festival calendar works either way.

## Supported languages

| Code | Language | Script |

| --- | --- | --- |

| hi | Hindi | हिन्दी |

| te | Telugu | తెలుగు |

| ta | Tamil | தமிழ் |

| kn | Kannada | ಕನ್ನಡ |

| ml | Malayalam | മലയാളം |

| mr | Marathi | मराठी |

| bn | Bengali | বাংলা |

| gu | Gujarati | ગુજરાતી |

| pa | Punjabi | ਪੰਜਾਬੀ |

| or | Odia | ଓଡ଼ିଆ |

| en-IN | English (India) | English |

## How it works

- Pick one or more languages in the composer or planner.
- Posts are written natively in the language, not word-for-word translated.
- A script check makes sure a Telugu post is actually in Telugu script before you see it.
- Character limits are counted per network on the final text.

## Festival calendar

The calendar shows 2026–27 Indian festivals with regional tags and suggested angles. Turn the overlay on in Calendar → Festivals.

Click a festival and choose 'Plan posts for this festival' to get drafts for the days before and on the festival.
